Outlook for 2010
The price of eggs in the UK are at a high level and are expected to remain at this level for some time. This is due to the new welfare regulations which come in on 1st January 2012.
Many egg producers are investing heavily to update their production systems and some are leaving the industry. Production is currently decreasing throughout Europe and this will continue to maintain strong egg prices.
In the UK demand for egg products made from free range eggs is also almost outstripping supplies at the moment. More UK egg producers are moving to free range production so this price pressure will ease off at some stage in the future.
With the likelihood of further weakness in the value of sterling this year imported egg product prices will also rise further.
So, it looks like a good year for egg producers and price pressures for egg processors and our customers.
